Ingredients

  • 4 caramelized onion & bell pepper turkey patties pre-made
  • 4 brioche buns
  • 1 large tomato cut into 4 slices
  • 1 large avocado mashed
  • 2 tbsp almond chipotle dip

Instructions

  • Sear the Patties: Cook the turkey patties in a skillet over medium heat according to package directions until heated through and lightly browned.
  • Toast the Buns: In the same skillet, place the brioche buns cut-side down. Toast for 1–2 minutes until golden and infused with the leftover savory flavors.
  • Prep the Base: While the patties cook, mash the avocado until smooth. Spread it evenly onto the bottom half of each toasted bun.
  • Assemble: Place a cooked turkey patty over the avocado, followed by a tomato slice.
  • Finish: Drizzle each burger with about ½ tablespoon of almond chipotle dip, top with the remaining bun, and serve immediately.

Notes

Recipe Variations
  • Low-Carb/Keto: Swap the brioche bun for large butter lettuce leaves or a portobello mushroom cap.
  • Spice Boost: Add sliced fresh jalapeños or a dash of smoked paprika into the mashed avocado for extra heat.
  • Plant-Based: Use a high-quality plant-based “beef” or black bean patty in place of the turkey.
  • The Dip: If almond chipotle dip is unavailable, mix Greek yogurt with chipotle in adobo sauce for a high-protein alternative.
  • Family Favourite: The original recipe was 5 ingredient Trader Joe’s but you might not be able to find those specific turkey burgers. Their plain frozen turkey burgers work just fine, just season both sides with lemon pepper. Aldi always has one or two kinds of brioche buns, which are the ones we have in the house. Definitely try to get that almond chipotle dip and if you mash the avocado ahead of time, add a little lime juice and salt to keep it fresh.

Variations
You can move away from the savory, mild profile of a turkey burger to the brighter, more delicate flavors of seafood, definitely lean into more “coastal” or acidic toppings. The almond chipotle dip is quite nutty and earthy, so the goal is to add ingredients that provide high-contrast crunch or citrusy brightness.
Here is how you might “remix” those avocado and tomato slices based on the protein:
1. For Salmon Burgers
Salmon is rich and oily, so you want to swap “creamy-on-creamy” (avocado + almond chipotle dip) for something that cuts through the fat.
  • The Swap: Instead of mashed avocado, try thinly sliced cucumbers quick-pickled in rice vinegar and sugar.
  • The Tomato Alternative: Use roasted red peppers or a sun-dried tomato tapenade. The concentrated sweetness of roasted tomatoes pairs better with salmon’s bold flavor than a watery fresh slice.
2. For Shrimp Burgers
Shrimp burgers tend to be bouncy and sweet, so they benefit from a “tropical” or high-acid profile.
  • The Swap: Instead of plain mashed avocado, make a citrus-heavy guacamole with lots of lime and cilantro.
  • The Tomato Alternative: Trade the slices for a mango or pineapple salsa. The fruit sugars play incredibly well with both the shrimp and the smoky spice in the almond chipotle dip.
3. For White Fish (Cod/Halibut) Burgers
White fish is very mild and can get “lost” under heavy toppings, so texture becomes the most important factor.
  • The Swap: Keep the avocado but slice it into firm wedges rather than mashing it. This keeps the burger from feeling “mushy.”
  • The Tomato Alternative: Swap the tomato for a tangy cabbage slaw (vinegar-based, not mayo-based). The crunch of the cabbage provides a necessary structural contrast to the soft fish and the creamy almond chipotle dip.

Comparison Summary
Protein Instead of Mashed Avocado… Instead of Tomato Slices…
Salmon Pickled Cucumber & Red Onion Roasted Red Peppers
Shrimp Lime & Cilantro Guacamole Mango or Pineapple Salsa
White Fish Firm Avocado Wedges Tangy Cabbage Slaw

Easy Vinegar Slaw & Quick Mango Salsa
Since you’re using the almond chipotle dip, these two recipes are designed to be “high-acid” to balance out that nutty, savory richness.

1. The Tangy Vinegar Slaw
Perfect for: White Fish or Salmon Burgers
This isn’t your typical creamy mayo coleslaw. It’s crunchy, bright, and acts as a “palate cleanser” for the smoky almond flavor.
  • Ingredients:
    • 2 cups Shredded cabbage (green, red, or a mix)
    • 1 small Carrot, shredded
    • 2 tbsp Apple cider vinegar (or rice vinegar for a milder taste)
    • 1 tbsp Extra virgin olive oil
    • 1 tsp Honey or maple syrup
    • A pinch of salt and cracked black pepper
  • Method:
    1. Whisk the vinegar, oil, honey, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl until emulsified.
    2. Add the cabbage and carrots.
    3. Toss thoroughly and let it sit for at least 10 minutes before serving. This allows the vinegar to slightly soften the cabbage.

2. The Quick Mango Salsa
Perfect for: Shrimp or Salmon Burgers
The sweetness of the mango against the kick of the spicy almond dip creates a “sweet and heat” profile that is classic for seafood.
  • Ingredients:
    • 1 ripe Mango, diced small
    • 1/4 Red onion, finely minced
    • 1/2 Jalapeño, seeded and minced (optional, for extra heat)
    • A handful of fresh Cilantro, chopped
    • Juice of 1 Lime
    • A pinch of salt
  • Method:
    1. Combine the diced mango, onion, and jalapeño in a bowl.
    2. Squeeze the fresh lime juice over the top and add the salt.
    3. Fold in the cilantro gently.
    4. Pro-Tip: If you don’t have mango, pineapple or even peaches work beautifully here too.

Pro-Tip: The “Double Layer” Strategy
When building these burgers, try spreading the almond chipotle dip on the bottom bun to “anchor” the patty, and then pile the Slaw or Salsa directly on top of the fish. This keeps the bun from getting soggy while ensuring you get every flavor in one bite.
